Habitat Elects New Board Members & Officers

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County President Steve Hellermann reports the election of two new board members: Irene Vagle and Marie Anderson. The board also elected officers: Steve Hellermann, President; Jan Finazzo, Vice President; Chris Worley, Treasurer; Janna Lindoo, Secretary; and John Beem, Past President. Other board members include: Joyce Hansen, John Loken, Terry Quist, Gordon Vander Helm and Pete Wood. Vern Anderson, Co-Founder and CEO of Douglas Machine, Inc. installed the new directors and officers at their organizational meeting held on July 20, 2010.

Habitat for Humainty of Douglas County earns Charities Review Council “MEETS ALL STANDARDS” SEAL

ST. PAUL, Minn.{August 21, 2009} —- Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County announces that it has been awarded the Charities Review Council “Meets All Standards” Seal indicating that it meets all sixteen of its Accountability Standards.

Nonprofit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County earn the Seal by voluntarily participating in the Council’s online Accountability Wizard. The Accountability Wizard is available to all nonprofit organizations soliciting in Minnesota and addresses a nonprofit organization’s performance in four critical areas: Public Disclosure, Governance, Financial Activity and Fundraising. By participating in the Accountability Wizard, nonprofit organizations can demonstrate responsibility, integrity and transparency to their constituents.

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County is now listed as a reviewed organization on the online Giving Guide of the Council’s Smart Givers Network, http://www.smartgivers.org and the Council’s Smart Giver newsletter distributed to more than 18,000 subscribers in Minnesota. The listings help a nonprofit organization demonstrate its commitment to accountable ethical practices to the public and that it is a trustworthy organization. The Council’s Smart Givers Network is the source of unbiased information where smart givers come for help and resources on responsible giving. The giving public can investigate an organization’s mission statement and programs, so they can be sure of what their money supports and determine whether it meets widely accepted standards.

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1997 and has built 24 homes for sale to partner families. Homeowner families are selected according to established criteria: need for housing, ability to partner with Habitat and ability to pay. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. Partner families purchase the homes from Habitat with no-profit, zero-interest mortgages. Volunteers provide most of the labor. Tax deductible donations of money, land and materials are provided by individuals, organizations, churches, foundations and businesses.
