Our Story

Since 1997, Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County has partnered with local people to build or improve their homes. Every affordable home and repair sparks wider change, leading to better health, education, financial independence, and well-being. But there's more work to do. 1 in 4 Douglas County households spend more than one-third of their monthly income on housing. Let's do something about it.

Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves income-qualified people regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
Tithing

Tithing allows affiliates an opportunity to share their resources with developing countries throughout the world, and to have both a global and a local home-building program. Since 1997, Habitat Douglas County has supported the construction of 126 international homes through tithing. The average cost of an international housing solution is $4,500. In addition to tithing, Habitat volunteers from Douglas County have participated in at least seven Global Village trips to help build Habitat homes in Cambodia, Vietnam, Mexico, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
